Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

Another Slate article, this one general but applies to cengage firings

"More than anything, hushed-up departures are nearly always a hallmark of management that’s fully disconnected from workers’ day-to-day realities. The idea that employees wouldn’t need to know about the departure of colleagues they rely on is so divorced from how work works that anyone at a company operating this way should seriously question the competence of its leadership. They might not be receiving departure announcements, but that’s one message that is getting delivered, loud and clear."

If it’s "just a job," why are you here leaving comments? And it’s not just a job—you spend a huge part of your life doing it.

And to "ProNounPizza": You're obviously a troll trying to stir things up. (Yawn.) I highly doubt you knew this person or even read the essay. The fact that you come here just to insult strangers is what’s truly "pathetic."

It's just a job.

Go in, do what you need to do and leave.

The former member of the Cenforce who is now out trashing the company was a kool-aid drinking hack for decades.

The fact that she has no shame is pathetic but not unexpected.

"More than anything, hushed-up departures are nearly always a hallmark of management that’s fully disconnected from workers’ day-to-day realities."

This happened to me. I was the glue that held my department together, but it was not always part of my job definition, because our department had been fairly fluid and I was a legacy employee.

Once I was let go, things seemed to fall apart. I even saw a job description 6 months later for my exact position that I, personally, had created over the years, but management didn't realize was important until I was gone.

I mentored and supported new employees who got promoted above me because I was telling them. But there was favoritism, and I wasn't the favorite. Once I was gone, the clothes fell off many employers for how much technological knowledge they lacked.

In my next job, I'm going to just distance myself from coworkers. They never advocated for me when I did for them. When I was let go, they never reached out to me.

Cengage promotes that fake, caring attitude. My direct manager was a prime example: act like she cared until I couldn't be pushed to my limited anymore. But the moment I was let go, no one reached out to me.
