Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

Proud HP Employee

In light of all the negativity around here I would like to stand out as an employee who is grateful for being a CW on the software enginering/web development team. I've been here for almost five years now and I never have to worry about being laid off becuase I don't work in supploy chain/operations. Thank you HP for taking good care of us who actually have meaningful work to do. I also appreciate being able to work from home in California instead of having to commute to the Palo Alto office. LONG LIVE HP!!!!!

I worked a couple years as a CW for HP. I did get a limited number of holidays and benefits from the contracting company. Once HP started to furlough me, I found a much better job.
As a CW, I was underpaid but HP was close to home and I enjoyed the work. BTW, now I make about $45k more than when I worked as a CW for HP. They really are quite stingy with the money.

I use to be a proud employee until I became a target for layoff. Even the best employees, with many of service, can get laid off. I’ve seen it happen many times, including myself.

As a retiree, it sounds like nothing has changed since 2001.

"It’s simple really. CWs are better than you. They work from home. You do not."

You seem to have a love relationship with HP--your slave driver that furloughs you and treats you as expendable. Hence your Stockholm Syndrome.

At the same time you seem to have a hate relationship with HP employees, constantly bashing them despite the fact that they are ultimately the hand that feeds you.

I completely agree with you on that. I think a lot of CWs work a lot more than FTEs. They were the ones who were still working in the labs during covid while everyone was at home. Frankly, CWs have a lot more technical capabilities because they get hands-on with the products being made while we just sit around and make powerpoints all day. As part of the engineering staff, I really wish we could get hands-on like the CWs. We really don't do engineering, we just make powerpoints and hope product management and our ODMs approve of it. It's pathetic. I feel like my technical skills are withering away.

CWs built this company the same way basketball Americans built this country.

If you’re really considered as an equal to an HP employee, why do you all wear orange badges? Why does “CW” appear in your name when you look someone up on Teams? Why are you all not part of corporate events (yes, they check your badge for that)? Aside from converting a CW to FTE on extremely rare occasions, why don’t you ever get promotions?

Look, I do treat CWs as I would a FTE employee but our company does NOT treat you all as equals. Many people do treat CWs horribly.

HP does NOT pay for your lunch, or at least, doesn’t know that you were covered for lunch. Your HP manager has a budget every year to spend on. If they don’t spend it all, they will lose that money for next year, shortening their budget.

There was a time where CWs were literally equal to FTEs. But there was an instance where one CW sued the company for an accident that happened during a company event. From then on out, CWs were practically excluded from everything. HP didn’t want to risk getting sued again.

CWs are considered “separate but equal”. Wow, where have we heard that before?

I am also a CW. Been here 9 years as a CW. I also have no problems with HP. I have found that how CW's are treated depends on the division you are working in. Some CW's are treated like trash (much like the replies you have gotten here) other CW's are treated as equals. My managers treat me like one of the team and I go to team functions like lunches and meetings that many other CW's are not invited to.

I understand that many HP regular employees do not consider us as HP employees but the fact that HP is paying for us to work for them via a 3rd party still makes us working for HP. My own manager said that HP is paying for me, more than some of his regular employees (but I only see half of that pay) and he could not understand why his own manager would not hire me direct. My agency supplies benefits and my pay is fine for me (I get close to 100K a year), but I do know that 9 years ago when I started at HP as a CW, I was treated like trash, pay was low and I hated working here. 7 years ago that all changed when I change agencies and got hired in a different division.

Thanks for all the love and support guys. I love waking up in the morning and starting my day by attending meetings from the comfort of my own home. HP FAMILY FOR THE WIN!!!

If you are a CW, you are not an HP employee. Think of what it signifies about you when even HP would not hire your kind. You are capable of some rudimentary thinking process, no?

Wait a minute. I thought you said you’re some Chinese dude in Las Vegas.

Looks like you’re moving up in the world. Promoted from CW to super-CW. I’m proud of you. Probably more proud than your parents who thought you’d be a neurosurgeon or a Ph.D. in quantum physics. But you decided to defy your cultural norms and that’s dangerous if you still lived in China.

First of all, you are not an "HP Employee." You are simply a "contingent worker" by HP standards (look it up, since apparently you are not aware of this).

You frequently create senseless posts like this, which can easily be identified by your spelling and grammatical errors.

You seem to have very little understanding of how much better contractors in other companies are treated, including not going on furloughs that can eat over one month of your salary per year.

You seem to be suffering from the Stockholm Syndrome, so look that one up too.

Dude HP su-ks. Do you even get benefits as a CW? I’m betting this post is fake or maybe you’ve drank too much kool aid. HP is a lame, failing tech company that underpays its’ employees unless you specialize in power point making skills. The more stupid you are, generally the longer you last at this company.
