Since 1998 I've had the privilege of laying off many employees in four different departments and I assure you that everyone I let go was either incompetent or lazy and usually both.
You sound like a prideful id--t. A lot of folks were made redundant with the recent acquisition, which is most likely the case with this poster. They would like to potentially be recruited in a different role that might make use of their skills.
Others are potentially laid off due to cost-cutting measures or doing more with less, which is leading to stressed out teams that are worked thin. There are also attrition measures like RTO5 that are threatening to shed more folks -- competent or incompetent.
So get off your high horse and use your brain a little.

Not commenter. In some groups layoffs are personal and retaliatory. A manager trying to bring them back would be disloyal.

The company is currently recruiting individuals with experience working in service companies, particularly those who have been employed for a decade.

You can apply. As managers, some of us will seek out former team members, but it can be tricky depending on which group they were laid off in.
