Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Confirmed - 45k plus layoff by EOY - Remote commute or resign

Confirmed it from legit sources - it’s happening. Sales and Support will be hit hardest. RTO was to force at least 10k to quit, the rest who are remote will be required to commute regardless of distance, or resign - no severance. Initiative led by Michael Dell himself - hybrid may be considered after layoff to keep morale high in FY27

Unrealistic.
Likely the folks too far away to go to office will get severance and the ones not going that are close enough will get fired.

Watch and see, come March 3rd it's pip season and managers are not excluded nor do they have the full say of their teams onsite balances.

"Legit sources" isn't really the same as THE Very High Contact on Good Authority. Unless it's the latter, it shouldn't be trusted.

I have no doubt that it's MD's wet dream to replace sales and support with AI. But it's not going to happen that quick.

80,000 is the magic number. At the end of each half, there will be a significant hair cut. They are hiring WSG people because Dell is losing market share in client platforms. So what do they do.... ? They throw more people at it to stop the bleeding. If that doesn't work, they'll do something else. Also hiring younger, cheaper folks is the target going forward. Intel is potentially going to be chopped up Maybe Dell will follow.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was true. The 100K employees per $100 billion in revenue mantra no longer holds: we're already heading into way below $100 billion revenue realm + our clown CEO is convinced he can run the company almost entirely on AI, as he surrounded himself entirely with a-s-kissers that sing him daily praises.

So the new RTO policy isn't even started yet and they are bring out a different one already ? Nonsense

They are going to cut 50% of the company, utter garbage

From my perspective, the issue with Dell is that the culture tends to prioritize surface-level successes—----what looks impressive at first glance. They value the end result without considering the behind-the-scenes effort, processes, and details required to make it work. Unfortunately, this is often overlooked, and the crucial aspects of how things function seem to be broken or not fully addressed. Management seems to focus solely on data, relying on it to confirm that everything is on track, but miss the bigger picture. Along the way, you encounter many people who seem to be “hanging around” or doing just enough to appear engaged at the right moments.

45k sounds unrealistic, but no one in the C Suite has a beating heart so, the idea of them salivating at the idea of having AI run all of sales is NOT unrealistic. The suffering will seemingly continue until there’s a few thousand brow beaten reps left in an open floor plan nightmare. Corporate America got evil FAST. Who would have guessed.

you are so full of sh!t. 45k fired in the next 10 months? Then why are certain groups hiring? WSG for one is hiring 65 AE's. Is that so they can fire them all by XMas?

Nobody can force you to resign. Nobody. Not legally.

The writing has been on the wall for a while now.
No innovation. Irrelevant CEO for over a decade.
No reinvestment into business/employees

exec class just winging it for now.

Dell SalesChat is going to replace a lot of workers - basically we’re quality testing the new AI sales assistant. Most recent RTO was to drive up attrition, for people to quit or look for other jobs. They’re hoping 10k reduction just from the first RTO, and my source says it’s driving it up, but not as high as expected. Over the year there will be more regular WFRs, leading to a stricter mandate that remote either commute regardless of distance, or resign. Belk did something similar. That’s the goal to get to the 45k mark, but more is wanted. There is belief that a smaller workforce with AI tools will bridge the gap.

RTO won't cause 45k people to leave. Did your source say "how" they plan on running the business with a whole limb missing?
