Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Warms My Heart

As someone who noped the heck out of there after I saw the writing on the wall, it brings me endless joy to see that I was accurate in my predictions. Predictions that it was not a merger, that it was an acquisition, that anyone from WPX that joined up would slowly and systematically be pushed out, and that things would continue as they always have at Devon. IT would continue to fumble, bumble, and otherwise sc--w the pooch because they have zero idea what they are doing. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I’d get a front row seat to this dumpster fire, but lo and behold, this is better than must see TV

If only DD would cross that unbelievably high line that would cause her removal. She can do no wrong that will cause her reprimand. At this point I’m certain she runs the company with how little accountability she is held to.

You must be referring to the continual layoff and rehire of “talent”. No one in town wants to work for us, so our only pool that exists are those we’ve let go. It’s like a bad case of battered puppy syndrome.

The thing about IT is not the execution, we are in Oklahoma City, not Dallas, Austin or Chapel Hill so you get the hand you dealt when you play cards in the swamp. What is amazing is the size of the budget of IT given the size of the company.
What will you allow to continue?

The truth of the matter is that we have been trying to reach you about your cars extended warranty.

Let’s be clear, blanketing the blame on all of IT is rather lazy. I think they are doing a fine job keeping things running. I think what you meant to say is the business-facing IT groups are the sc--w-ups, parading their “accomplishments” around while no one asked. And of course don’t forget that anyone that suggests things aren’t completely perfectly 100% A-OK is told not to worry about. Even if you have proof! They’ll just wave their hands and brush it under the rug. This is why the data and ways to access the data is so bad. And why no one trusts the data. Can’t use any of it, if you can even find it. This is why we are the laughing stock of the larger energy companies. Worst kept secret in town.
