I'm seeing the departures of people with this title. Recently Matt announced another "flattening" of the structure but said that managers won't be laid off: some of them would just go back to development. Nothing has been said about TMs.

TDMs are billable, so not sure it's the same.
What about TDMs?
From what I've heard, many TMSDs are being asked (told) to go back to being individual contributors. I don't know what's happening to TMSDs that say no, but they may be fired or will quit on their own volition.
