Managers working from home

Our manager lives too far away from an office and works from home.
How can anybody take return to office seriously, if the direct manager is working from home?

If a team's manager is working from home, the entire team should be allowed to also work from home.

Under zero circumstances should any Managers be working from home. If they can't be in office like there team they need to get another job. What kind of example would they be setting if they get to work from home sitting by there pool or at a tiki bar in Florida for the winter and there team has to be in a small office setting with barely any space?
Managers get back to work Monday -Friday in house!!!

Managers are spending most of their time in meetings interacting with others, which is the very thing they are telling us is the benefit from RTO.
The fact that they aren't making it a requirement for a manager role to be in office is telling.

People managers is the one role where someone can be replaced with basically no operational impact.
The good news is that remote work will probably stay for individual contributors as well due to their reluctance to force managers back to office.

I have the opposite problem. My manager drives 2 hours one way, every day. Makes it hard for any of us on the team to complain/not go in.

Dell keeps managers that were reported to HR for toxic behavior to direct reports.

Such is that I mean, there’s people that don’t have anyone that they directly work with in their state or sometimes even in their country. Some people don’t care what their manager does because it’s not like they would ever see them anyway when they’re literally on the other side of the globe.

My manager is a POS. The only thing more micro than his management style is in his pants. Can’t stand him or this job anymore. I’ve done 2 Tell Dell’s going off and of course… nothing changed. He’s driven off well over 12 reps in the last year, another recently. Dell doesn’t care. They just flat out don’t.

Managers need to be in the office or take a different role.

This is very simple, remember, all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.

When was the last time you saw Michael Dell on campus? How about your VP?

I see commonly MSD a couple times per week in the halls. My VP is there every day. MSD has even shown up at a couple of our meetings to hang out and say hello to people as well.

If the manager is outside the 1hr area (however that as judged) then they will be allowed to be remote. It's a farce, but that's MD's rules.

See that’s the glory of being in management: you don’t have to follow the rules but your individual contributors do.

Quite easily, policy says within an hour. If they are outside of that, they can remain remote. Do you think if they were in the office and had meetings in other buildings that you shouldn't have to work from your building since they aren't in it? Some of y'all manage some serious mental gymnastics to try and be self-righteous.
