Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Could more closures happen this year?

I’m wondering if the list that was made public recently was all for 2025 or do you think more could close? My store was told last summer that we were on the list, but this past fall we were told we weren’t closing at the beginning of the year. Nothing else was said. We all assumed we’d be open another year. However, it appears that we are not getting any swimwear, which was always huge for us, and they are pulling Tommy, Nautica and men’s golf. We don’t know what to think. I wonder if maybe they only signed on for a 6 month lease.

You will know when your store will close, they gave my store 6 months notice some employees applied at other stores and others stayed for the severance pay and some retired

Same with us. No swim. Loosing a number of brands that are staples. On the short list but no out date yet.

Yes there will be more. Late June, early July.

Our store was told we were a neighborhood store about six years ago. At that time our store manager told us that we would be closing in three years. We were moved into a special neighborhood district and region that was all supposed to close down along with the neighborhood stores. Six years later, here we still are, on the 150 closing list but still open and running. Never count your store out. The company direction and leadership change more frequently than review criteria, which is really saying something. So keep your fingers crossed and keep in mind that last year the stores on the 66 closing list this spring where told in July. You will have plenty of notice if and when your store is actuallyclosing.

W Nautica? It's cr-p. We just got a lot of swim with today's truck. Who told u you're not getting any swim? Are you pulling those departments now or they're being cut for fall?

Stores go on and off that list all the time. 1 store closing near me has been on thr list at least 6 years. I wouldn't stress until the STM actually announces it. I know another store that was on the list that is now getting major money put into it. There is so much behind the scenes that go into actually closing like if we own the building or lease, someone to buy the building, number of empty stores in your mall. Some malls reduced rent to get stores to stay longer.

If you are not part of the R125 stores, then you are at risk of closing.

The remain stores closures will be posted this summer, 84 stores are still left to close but the company could add more stores this year.

Never assume when it comes to store closures. All announcements for 2025 closures have been made but like we were told, anything could change. Announcements for 2026 closures should be made before Fall 2025, but again anything could change. Good luck!
