I wonder if I’m the only one who feels upset about this. I understand that job titles might not seem like a big deal, but with all the recent changes, seeing my position rebranded to something that sounds far less significant, a title that was actually my old role from years ago, before I earned my so-called "promotion", makes me feel like a joke. What’s even more frustrating is how out of touch leadership seems to be, especially when they try to justify their clueless decisions, which only end up damaging morale.

Even this job title roll-out is a mess. 80% of the team got new standardized titles. 20% not updated (but not compliant with the new structure). Managers don't know what the titles should have been for the 20%.
Some of the team still reporting to old managers who are not with us anymore, some not assigned to a manager.
No one else cares what your title is. Focus on what you get paid. Leave ego at the door re titles. Let the upper mo--ns revel in their fancy dancy titles. VP of BS etc. Just pay me.
I'm my department, we have so many managers, many with one or two direct reports, others with no reports. I just don't get it.
I believe they benefit when titles are downgraded, mostly likely because the band changes which sometime could lower the bonus target. This happened to me, I was told I would be grandfathered in at 10%, a year later, I was informed my target bonus would now be 5%. Lesson learned, at Cargill be sure to get everything in writing.
This is the most ineffective org I ever worked for. People work hard but not together. Too many Senior layers too many favourites grabbing big jobs when they have no experience elsewhere. Cargill is and and will fail fast because of all this.
Some professionals have worked and trained their entire career to reach tge industry titles they have. They may have come to cargill with them. It's not going to help future job prospects if you were an experienced software engineer and now you have intern title.or receptionist. No joke some titles aren't even in line with the persons skill set or experience. This is a way to change paybands. If you want me to be a maitre de and not a chef then don't expect your reservations and seating assignments to go smoothly cos im interviewing for a place that realizes with out the chef no one else is needed
What are the new job titles?
Going to be a problem when we start marketing roles externally as director, sr director and vp level and our pay isn’t even close to others in the market with similar titles, especially if there is going to be some rationalization with bands.
I have a few thoughts on the title change.
- The titles here have always been a mess, to the point I've completely ignored them.
- I can understand the driver to standardize and align with the market, but as usual, the communication, details, and implementation was a joke. The complete lack of notice and employee input is icing on the cake.
- A lot of the new titles may be more "standardized" but now somehow make even less sense than they did before. I'd expect nothing less from the HR dept.
- The timing of these changes could not have been worse with all of the layoffs and uncertain future. Again, awful decision.
My IC title was updated today and it is a downgrade. Meanwhile it seems managers all got bumped a level up, many “Leads” are now “Directors”.
I do like the fact that there hopefully shouldn't be ten different titles across the organization for the same style role, outside that it seems like they are leveling many up just to give the illusion of security with the the looming product line exits coming soon that will certainly cause a forced hand to revist head count.
DT&D has significantly devalued individual contributor roles while making managerial positions more significant. I predict this imbalance will soon lead to a mass exodus of individual contributors from the company.
Just wait until the "market analysis" - that will no doubt be performed by consultants and cost millions - to align the new titles to a reduced pay band.
You know it's coming!!
110% agree with original poster. This is happenening in marketing… makes me very angry that titles is what we are focusing on when we could really use more role clarity in the new regime.
Some big jobs are being created out of the blue when saying they’re cost cutting. How’s that right? Nothing makes sense in this horrible nasty company.
