Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

Q1 Was Bad, Q2 Is Looking Worse, Q3 WFRs, Q4 What's Left

After careful consideration, I have decided to part ways with HP. I am currently exploring the possibility of WFRing myself, which would allow me to exit the company with some financial compensation. I joined HP in 2020 and have found it to be one of the least competitive employers in terms of compensation and benefits, especially for non-executive roles. Bonuses are often underfunded, salary increases are minimal (typically around 2%), and advancement opportunities are scarce. Unless you are a VP or above, compensation is not competitive.

The company's messaging and recognition of employee performance has been inconsistent at best. Employees are frequently told that the organization has exceeded expectations, only to receive bonus payouts that are a mere fraction of their target amounts. If the company offers a voluntary WFR program, I would kindly request that HR consider my application, as I believe I could find better career opportunities elsewhere that align more closely with my professional goals and financial needs.

By the way, HP won’t ask for volunteers to WFR. They’ll just do it. The best way you can get laid off is if you start performing at the minimum level. Now hold on… I’m not saying all people who do get laid off are minimalists. Frankly, I think a lot of people get laid off because their managers don’t inform them that they’re redundant workforce or their managers don’t care to provide them any work where they can challenge themselves.

But to fast track your layoff, do the minimum of what’s expected of you, don’t volunteer to do more work, don't set timelines on assignments, don't set any goals, but still do your work. If you don’t do your work then you can get fired and that can risk your chances of receiving severance.

HP is going sell PCs and printers until the end of time. It’s the only thing they know how to do. The parallels between the PC industry and the smartphone industry is a very similar dichotomy.

They COULD move on to pioneer a new type computing and portable device if they really wanted to but they won’t take risks nor do they want to hire anyone to do. I don’t know about you all but I find the PC industry extremely boring to follow. Nothing has really impressed me in an extremely long time.

But wait! We don't have money but we buy another cr-ppy company:
https://techcrunch.com/2025/02/18/humanes-ai-pin-is-dead-as-hp-buys-startups-assets-for-116m/

Humane announced on Tuesday that most of its assets have been acquired by HP for $116 million.

HP is acquiring Humane’s engineers and product managers, according to a blog post announcing the acquisition. The Humane team will form the basis of a new group within HP called HP IQ, which it describes as an “AI innovation lab focused on building an intelligent ecosystem across HP’s products and services for the future of work.”

PS: I am also begging my boss to fire me with WFR and paid package, but in Europe is a mess.
