Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

My boss says he doesn’t care about daily hours

He said when March approaches just come in each day but doesn’t matter if it’s 1 hour or 8 hours.

The good ol’ domino effect.
We are about to be forced into RTO x5 times a week because the vast majority just skipped going back 3 times a week or just plainly were coffee badging.
The next thing is a minimum of 8hrs/day. By now we all know every little mouse click is being tracked. RF ID badges are in the works.

Are Arthur Lewis and John Roese coming into the office yet? Will they be in 5 days per week?

Your boss sounds cool but just be sure to monitor the FAQs in case mandatory hours are updated.

Your boss likely does not have final say. If it comes down to saving their own job vs throwing you under the bus, you’ll be out faster than you say “Greyhound”.

The leaders I worked with all knew that the place owned all our as--s at night as well as early morning, taking calls from home. So, they didn't care how many hours. They were in the same boat as the rest of us.

lower level managers mainly want their folks producing results, making the team look good as a whole, they don't care where the person is sitting.. high performers tend to perform even better remote, for some roles, low performers do not and they abuse it, so the logic apparently is to focus on low performers at the expense of high performers.. my take, get rid of the low performers instead. most managers aren't going to do anything to a high performer that isn't badging in unless HR and their own leadership make it a thing... penalties, reporting, etc.

VPN time is irrelevant in RTO. They track your laptop pinging the network / connecting to WiFi. Leadership already knows about coffee badging.

Also, VPN time is irrelevant. I'm in numerous meetings per week which we don't open laptops. Some days I'm there for ten hours and never log on

Former m10 here. Aka senior mager.. when I was with dell we could track vpn time if needed. I once had to do it for an under performing person that was remote and claimed to be busy but his work showed different.. hr reached out to it and was able to show online vpn time.. this was 4 years ago.. I'm sure the tracking is better now.

Sounds like you have a good boss but he didn't make the policy, he is supposed to follow it so don't get in a situation.

Did he say it out loud, or do you have it in writing? If not in writing I give it a 125% your boss will burn you when you have less than 8 hours per day in office.
