Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

WFH isn’t the problem

Since COVID the interests of capital /management and labor have been drifting apart resulting in bad behavior

WFH picked up during the same time so some people mistakenly think it’s to blame

It isn’t

Conversely BTO isn’t going to fix anything

Get back to where everyone prospers together and the problem, which needs fixing, will be fixed

Until then enjoy doing more and more work for less and less pay

WFH isn’t the problem

GPT-4o mini

It sounds like you might be referring to the challenges or misconceptions surrounding working from home (WFH). Many people have different opinions about WFH, and while it can offer flexibility and convenience, it can also present issues like isolation, distractions, or difficulties in communication. What specific aspects of WFH are you thinking about?

Incidentally remote work will allow moving my job to a low cost geo.

It’s coming. And I’ll be on the street

But if we have BTO my living less than five miles from the site might cut down on some competition for my job

Things not to cling to

The world is changing and you are only going to be miserable if you cling to the things that are going away

Such as WFO. Employees aren’t the only thing companies can save money on

Commercial Real Estate seriously underperforms as an asset.

Capitalism will eventually prune the CEO’s that can’t see that they’re basically pi----g money away on entertainment

AI is perfectly capable of keeping everyone productive. Expect webcams on policies. But don’t worry no person will watch you.

The world is changing and you are only going to be miserable if you cling to the things that are going away. If they say your job only exists in the office than you won't have a choice. Companies will probably still hire contact employees for remote work for some types of work but if you want to be a full time employee you will need to comply with the company policy. With all of the companies and the government laying off big numbers of employees it will be easy for you to be replaced.
