Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Welcome

I hope this finds everyone well. I’d like to take a moment to discuss an important topic that could have a significant impact on our workplace and the way we work together moving forward: the possibility of unionizing.

In recent times, there has been increasing interest among employees in many industries about the benefits of union representation. A union can help ensure that our voices are heard, advocate for fair wages, better benefits, improved working conditions, and provide support in case of disputes.

As we all know, our workplace is only as strong as the collaboration and communication we share. Unionizing can offer us an organized way to collectively address challenges, pursue common goals, and ensure that we are treated fairly.

I would like to propose holding an informational meeting to discuss what unionization might look like for us, the benefits, and the process involved. This will be an opportunity to ask questions, share thoughts, and learn more about how it could help us build a better, stronger workplace together.

Please let me know if you would be interested in attending such a meeting, or if you have any immediate questions or concerns. Although this is just an introductory note, I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts and engaging in a constructive conversation on this important subject. In the coming weeks there will be more official communications with options for Texas, Massachusetts and North Carolina.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I would say post some flyers at offices and put them in all the coffee stations and on the walls of the bathrooms. Put some pressure and management will become concerned even at the illusion that something may be going on.

Give it a try. The only ones who will gain are those whose jobs are not immediately mobile, such as parts of logistics and manufacturing. It would not be difficult to move the other jobs to parts of the country that are not union friendly or other countries. A win for the company since the labor may be cheaper.

In the northeastern US Starbucks and Amazon workers have unionized. Both companies either closed locations or transferred jobs.

The winners of unionizing are the union execs who are not really interested in much beyond collecting dues and being courted by Democratic candidates.

And as someone pointed out, the people trying rally others aren’t providing any contact info.

IFPTE Local is a labor union representing workers in various sectors, focusing on advocating for fair wages, benefits, and workplace rights. As part of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), local chapters are dedicated to ensuring that its members receive the support, resources, and representation needed to succeed in their respective fields. The local union works to create strong, supportive environments for its members, negotiating contracts and offering guidance on professional and workplace issues.

"I hope this finds you well"...

Well,
Once upon a time, in a land where job security was as mythical as unicorns, thousands of tech workers woke up to find themselves locked out of their company accounts.

And as they scrolled through their personal emails, there it was—the most gut-wrenching plot twist of all:

"I hope this email finds you well."

Ah yes, nothing quite like a soulless corporate breakup letter to remind you that, in tech, the only thing more disposable than old code is the people who wrote it.

With love from AI replacing us <3

It will never happen. MD will shutdown any office in any state that tries to unionize. As he should. Unions just line the pockets of the Union Execs.

I feel it’s about time corp America unionizes. Our rights as employees have been trampled for decades. Cr-ppy pay increases, forced mandates, cr-ppy health insurance that increases yearly and working in cr-p buildings that are filthy, uncleaned, outdated, and smell like mold. Carpet literally coming up. Don’t walk and read email at the same time on your phone, you’ll trip over carpet tiles that are coming up. (Saw it happen last Monday!). Forcing RTO with no COL increases. Leadership needs to remember who makes them their money. All the people under them that they treat like cr-p. All they seem to do is meet to meet and PowerPoints.

Interesting idea, probably worth exploring. However I suspect one of the key challenges to overcome will be the massive leverage AVGO has over existing employees via the employee stock ownership plan. Think about it for a moment. So many employees are chained to the company because of the significant unvested wealth in their AVGO stock plan. That plan can easily (and unilaterally) be changed by the board of directors, at any time. If you were Hock, wouldn't you threaten employees with dilution or repeal of that plan, if a unionization effort starts to gain traction? I know I would.

No better way to deflate a unionization effort than by "paying off" the rank-and-file by agreeing to maintain the current stock plan if the company remains non-union.
