I joined Citrix a couple of years ago and finally decided to leave this month. However, I don't regret my time here. I think Citrix was and still is to some extent a pretty relaxed company, and I enjoyed working on some interesting projects with smart people. Not a single day did I have to stay late or put in any overtime, there was no BS micromanagement (besides the recent RTO stuff) and in general I was pretty happy.
I decided to leave partly because of pay (which tbh is pretty mediocre even for the area), and partly because of the buyout which, although it hasn't impacted my team much yet, I fear that going forward Citrix will lose a lot of the things that made it a good place to work, with the new leadership caring solely about company value and "winning". And the cancellation of the thank you day seemed to confirm my fears.
I ended up finding another job doing similar stuff but for almost double my salary. I don't know if it will be as relaxed as Citrix, but I'm hopeful that it'll be alright. Change is scary but (as upper management seem to keep ba----g on about) sometimes you need to make decisions, which is why I decided that it was time to go. I have learnt a lot from my time here, and wouldn't have gotten my new job without this knowledge, so I'm thankful for that.
My advice to people is to know your worth (check glassdoor, levels.fyi etc) and if you feel it's time, make the plunge to start finding a new job. They are definitely out there! I know a lot of people are waiting for severance but I think sometimes it's best to take the initiative, the extra amount you could make at a new job might end up being more than whatever severance you'd get if you stick around. Either way, whether you decide to leave or wait it out, no judgment and I wish you all the best of luck!
