Chevron has recently implemented a Return-to-Office (RTO) mandate, coupled with a reduction of 9,000 employees, and is relocating many remaining administrative positions to India. It’s clear that other companies, like Dell, are following suit by moving jobs overseas to reduce costs. By not adhering to the RTO mandate, we are unintentionally providing them with a justification to take these actions.
My sister, who works at Chevron, shared that while there was initial resistance, many employees have since embraced the office return after the announcement, expressing positive sentiments about being back in the office. It’s a reminder that, in many cases, we are at the mercy of executive decisions.
If you wish to retain your position, my advice is to comply with the RTO mandate. While it may not guarantee job security, it could potentially buy you an additional six months before any further changes or layoffs occur.
