Thread regarding Frontier Communications Corp. layoffs

The union doesn’t get it!

Hey Union,

We are ready to finalize the contract. The company has agreed to most everything we asked for other than retirement medical. Which let’s face it. That was your total fu-k up if you didn’t actually get the money for the membership. Get a clue and realize. We will never again have 50 union splicers and 40 union lineman per yard. Those days are gone. Yeah I know, again you fu---d up and gave away to much in 2010. But guess what. If you were to incompetent to see the writing on the wall then. Then you have no business being our union. Perhaps we should petition to be IBEW. Realize you’re not ever going to get the dues you once got and figure out something else. Stop neglecting the what’s left of the membership to save your dues. We need to get this contract signed. Oh and while we’re discussing this. Stop sending out emails about who we should be voting for in local elections. I’d prefer you focus on getting the fu----g contract signed and keeping your nose out of my voting preferences. Member Local 9575!

Why are we still split up into 2 unions anyway? It's been almost 23 years since FBA and GTE combined their wondertwin powers to form Verizon... shouldn't we break away from our broken union and all be under IBEW anyway? I for one don't think any loyalties should come into play for CWA since they no longer have our best interests in mind.

Well said by all of you. CWA is a complete hypocrite for asking members to vote blue.

Real men were ready to strike back in the day.

“Back in the day” the union as whole actually fought for things that matter.

Not sidestepping our promised retirement medical while holding out for lazy call center people that want to work from home. No wait want to come back to the office. No wait want another 2 minutes added to their breaks. No wait think should be entitled to endless days of FMLA at full pay.

Thanks for posting that. Coincidentally, I just got an email from the local CWA saying the company won’t budge on contractors. It’s interesting to me the company gave us the no layoff clause for the life of the contract but the union is still holding out for this contractor thing saying it threatens job security. Clearly if we have a no layoff clause, job security isn’t an issue. I think the issue is the union realizes their membership dues are shrinking every year. They’d rather try to get us to walk and lose MORE money personally in order for them to gain the potential for more permanent members and DUES. After the last 4 day walkout where we LOST money. The union claimed we had a resolve. Yet here we are two months later and the union has accomplished nothing. Other than members not getting pay raises in this horrible economy thanks to horrible government policies. It’s laughable the union wants us to vote for more of these people and get deeper into these horrible policies.
