Why do many of you assume Gary wanted to be CEO of Cisco , very strange to me. I guess anytime there is a ceo and ex ceo the only explanation in your mind for stepping down is the ex ceo wanted the job they gave up? Very telling about how we think and see the world around us.

Maybe it’s possible but what evidence do you have to support your claim?

my guess - CR doesn't want to vacate CEO position now that stock is on upswing, Steele didn't want to sit in the waiting room any longer, so buh-bye

probably some additional tension between them given GS may have higher net worth than CR after taking both Proofpoint and Splunk through acquisitions....CR does not actually pull in the megabucks compared to other CEOs

Nothing surprises me at Cisco when it comes to turnover. Either GS didn't want to be second in line to the throne or he was asked to leave (like MM).

Surprising news. Looks like Gary didn't want to wait until Chuck might step down at some point. I hope the successor doesn't overturn everything again and wants to head in a completely different direction.
