Thread regarding Amazon.com layoffs

AWS remote jobs, do they exist?

Got called by a recruiter last week about a remote position in the AWS team in VA (I'm a couple of states west) and he told me that even if the position changes to in-office (as "things may change" as he said), the hiring manager would be able to have me WFH.

Is having me in an exception to WFH a thing? I thought Amazon was all RTO 5-day/week by now. I also know that company policies can change, so I am really concerned about going through the interview process, accepting an offer and having to comply with RTO.

Also, is AWS somewhat safe from layoffs?

They do not. Recruiting may tell you yes, HR will then tell you no. They do not care about breach of contract because we are all at will in the USA. Make sure you are assigned a desk and a office and go there everyday. If you do not, they have a legal reason for termination.

Do not trust hiring managers. (I left because of the manager who hired me).

They have quotas like everyone else, and will literally say anything to get you in. Unless you're proserve (don't do that), you aren't guaranteed a virtual office any more, and will get called in.

Maybe ask HR? They don't do accommodations anymore for remote.

Yes, about 50000 (1/7) virtual location assigned employees. Hard to get a new job with virtual location assignment unless upper mgmt or security.

Where do you have this number from and in what organizations are they?
