Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

All the blame on refining

Kate started the performance update by putting all the blame for our 2024 performance on refining specifically calling out Whiting. That is a deliberate signal. We should expect more to come on that during the strategy update at CMD.

Will anyone buy a BP refinery?
It's well known that the salaries are over the top and the backlog maintenance is high.
Comment on Solutions fault.....you should see Site Projects & TAR Headcount at refineries. It's beyond ridiculous.

Refining is in a rut, only 2 of our 6 refineries made any money in 2024… imo divest them to someone else who can take better care of them and run them better!

The blame should go on solutions and these stupid projects people who waste everything left and right.

Murray is so bad at webcasts/townhalls. Charisma void, unguarded off the cuff comments, looks like a sack of sh-t.

An accomplice to reinvent.

Honestly, I don't understand how he was picked for the job.

"Murray claimed he was super excited..." this made me laugh as well. I've NEVER seen a CEO that has to face the public say that yeah... his organization su-ked and it will su-k for a while until they get lucky. In fact, they always put the best positive spin on things, but you know that he's sweating bullets knowing that he's on the edge of a cliff and that at any moment, he could be told to resign. Back in August of 1998, H. Lawrence Fuller (CEO of Amoco corporation) was interviewed and when he was asked about Amoco's future, he said and I paraphrase... Amoco's future is very bright... Yeah, that was when John Browne landed on Amoco. Lol!

How do the DT tariffs on crude affect Whiting’s bottom line?

Whiting is still the best holding in that pot, especially with EU regulations choking out the euro ones. Ineos will make money with them but bp lacks the efficiency and discipline (see VP placements and turnover).

Expect cheep low margin US businesses (TA, Thorntons, Archea) to keep getting praise so BP can say it’s “investing in America” while actively cutting out all technical grade I+ roles and moving them overseas.

Hilarious that Murray claimed he was super excited about what’s to come but his face looked like he was about to cry. He’s either a really bad actor or his vasectomy still hurts.

Refining has a target on its back. They’ve ki-led all major projects for CP and Whiting in the Americas. Lot of signs pointing in one direction.

Murray’s still talking about how great our retail and G&LCE assets are in the US. What is going onnnnnn? Did I miss hear him?

Murray said “I feel okay guys”. I’m glad someone feels okay.
