Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

Canon’s Employees Standard of Living

What’s the consensus? After making it through this merger, will there be increases this year? Any thoughts or insights… thinking it would be nice for the company to show some appreciation for their loyal and dedicated employees, that have remained here.

You may have misunderstood what that person said about bonuses and leaving. Reading these posts can be difficult for an employee to digest. There are many negative comments daily. People have the right to voice what they feel. However, some people become sensitive to the comments. After all, Canon has provided for many people, and depending on what that person has gone through, they may cherish the simple things they have received from Canon.

The corporate philosophy is Kyosei.
“Canon's corporate philosophy is kyosei. It conveys our dedication to seeing all people, regardless of culture, customs, language or race, harmoniously living and working together in happiness into the future.
Unfortunately, current factors related to economies, resources and the environment make realizing kyosei difficult.
Canon strives to eliminate these factors through corporate activities rooted in kyosei. Truly global companies must foster good relations with customers and communities, as well as with governments, regions and the environment as part of their fulfillment of social responsibilities.
For this reason, Canon's goal is to contribute to global prosperity and the well-being of humankind as we continue our efforts to bring the world closer to achieving kyosei.”
There is nothing wrong with employee seeking an increase in pay, it’s part of living and working, having a career. However, what’s wrong is, when a person from the company would rather tell employees to go somewhere else, instead of following their corporate philosophy and foster good relations with its employees. I would say most employees I’ve been working with work hard to make Canon successful and win, making that revenue year after year and after seeing the responses to this post and replies says an ugly side to a person. Senior employees that have been here are loyal and dedicated people, who love to win. This person telling employees to go somewhere else to work because they are offended of the increase need is counterproductive and will not help Canon overall success. You don’t win with a miser mentality. Treat your employees with kindness, empower your employees with respect and trust and they with build to soaring heights.

Execs must of gotten better bonuses than others, as standard employee bonuses were about 1-2% of salary from what I saw. Extremely generous?!?!

Straight from a quick google search:

“A "good" yearly bonus percentage generally falls between 5% and 10% of an employee's salary, with the average considered to be around 8%,“

Let me understand this post and the replies. The company provided a Christmas bonus, which caught many people off guard because the amount was extremely generous. PDPs haven't even ended, and already we have fortune tellers predicting decreases. Look, if you don't like the company and its way, this is America... No one is holding you, hostage!

The only increases will be in workload, stress, commuting costs, dysfunction between departments, callout absences, heart attacks, migraines, insomnia, heartburn, indigestion, diarrhea. Hopefully the vending machine guy will stock up on Pepto Bismol.

The 25 cent raise if there is one won’t make up for the increase of living! This is the only place I have ever worked for where you make less every year instead of more! I hope that answers your question?
