There is literally only one person who should become CEO and who has a decent chance at saving whatever is left and building on it. Everyone knows who this person is. The Board definitely knows him. So what are they waiting for?!

No replacement before Pat fired due to major , sudden rift.
Now it takes so long cause board calls everybody up to ask if they want the job, but all they need back is crickets.
Not really a surprise knowing the odds of survival.
Haifa .. you're welcome
@bd.. this comment ,
"Honestly, they should have first identified the replacement CEO before firing Pat."
makes perfect sense,
however realize the Intel BoD only acts in non-sensical fashion going on for the past 10 years!!
4 years ago, Intel was still in a dangerous situation, but it had more runway left and more cash in the bank. Today, the company is in a very precarious position and every week that goes by without a permanent CEO, the situation is getting worse and unsalvageable. The BoD needs to be moving with urgency. Honestly, they should have first identified the replacement CEO before firing Pat.
The CEO is chosen who seems best for the strategy and I'm sure the BOD is considering multiple strategies.
There are few potential candidates who would be qualified to run Intel as it exists today. It is still a large very complex organization.
If the most pressing issue is to get Foundry profitable then Caufield does seem the right person. Focusing on that probably means Product Groups and products become less of a priority.
If someone like Jim Keller was to be the CEO then that might indicate little change in the Foundry strategy.
Considering where x86 is compared to ARM, it probably makes more sense to focus on Foundry profitability and keeping technology current.
Then sell off or scale down Product groups to what business they can still attract, with the exception of GPU/AI development (because that may be able to eventually grow market share).
BOD should take the time to get the best fit of candidate and strategy (that is still possible), unless it is considered more important to have regular Friday videos for employees to watch.
I don't think it matters how long it takes to find the best fit. Dave is just doing what Bob Swan did previously, and that went on for several years.

@a2 Why are RLM and BGN on the BoD for Intel Corporation? For what?
Because this time BoD is not going to make any mistake. INTC is getting the best CEO possible in the history of tech corporations. After that INTC is going to shine so bright customers will just flock into INTC's door step.
Prayer circle for CEO!
Yes but he retired and I don't think you'll get Pat to come back.
Just let it go already. Work on those stages of grief, or try dr-gs and alcohol.
Time to move on.
The main task of the CEO is to protect the board. Quality CEO candidates recognize the sh-t show that is Intels Board. Anyone who hires on with this Board intact will be an unconscionable POS. Ya got to start with the Board
Who?
