Thread regarding Northwestern Mutual layoffs

Northwestern Mutual is a Historic Milwaukee company operating only in the United States. Why so many foreign workers?

Are they that much cheaper? Sure many of them are hard working and talented people but I feel it is a bad look to the community and American customers to be employing so many, especially considering how horrific the white collar job market is becoming

Most jobs h1b’s taking over don’t require high school AP math skills. We should preserve these jobs for American workers. If we import all the academically studious global south to our country how will that solves any problem?

When you have hired g-ns with money to spend throwing out good people to pad their pockets…that is a problem. Those who know know.

Looking forward to things changing under the new CEO.

What is good about the onshore/offshore mix? Just highlight few of the wonderful experience you had with the imported team. Folks are here claiming to be specialized workers. But that's not true, their skills are quite average. If we were to take their jobs away in their home country, would they be okay with that?

To be fair, I have observed quite the opposite from the Americans I work with. While the foreign workers are more servile and obedient they are generally unremarkable and unable to function outside of very specific instructions

Maybe if you all could do a base level of high school math and be able to read at a high school level, that might help you get a job over a foreign worker. Not to mention that if you look up at 330 pm in any of our offices, it’s very empty. Simple fact is Americans do not work that hard, and the quality of work is generally abysmal. Look at how many P1 and P2 incidents happened in the last month…none of that was because of foreign workers, it was all because the American techs did not test sh-t before deploying. Can’t even write a requirements or use case document properly smh

Toxic circus has a ringmaster leader for home office and a joker to take care of the field. The ringmaster aka e. mu$k of this company, will have a s/w sales team that has the exact % of h1b and L1 visas to be processed for the so-called specialized skull that they cannot find across the 50 states.
The mid-level mngt reading this thread can feel free to provide this % too.

I’m curious what % of NM’s total workforce are h1b? Anyone know?

most of them are not 'hard working' or 'talented.' what they are, is easily controllable via the binds of the h1b an control that provides to infosys, cognizant, etc. over them.

most know only how to do exactly what they were trained for and lack any chain of thought reasoning skills to actually anticipate issues, leading to never ending wastes of time on rework or meetings to spell out exactly what they should do.

Imagine trying to sell permanent life insurance in a country where the majority of their massive population earn less than $5 per day :(

If they are so committed to foreign workers and in growing foreign economy, they should consider opening an office in that country to sell their insurance products there. Then our managers and directors from WI can work onsite at the foreign location, benefit from the abundant vitamin D in the hot climate plus enjoy a diverse range of spicy cuisine. Initially they might suffer diarrhea but eventually their bodies will adapt, allowing them to fully enjoy their experience.
