Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Review Scores

As most people know, review Scores are rated 1-5 on annual review. Nobody gets a 5, so most get 3s or 4s. However, in order to RIF people I would assume there will be a lot of people getting 2s this review cycle in order to have an excuse to let them go in next round of layoffs and avoid paying rasises or bonuses. Really disgusting practices

I received a 4 and a 1% merit. Insanity.

My group we just cut to the chase get the 3 numbers rating merit bonus in an email no need for meeting. Several years I found out on the pay check changes were effective since management chaos no time to share. Always fun when you get passed around like the town bike in Q1 so new manager is to deliver the rating when they have no clue what you do. Professional organization for sure

I could care less about a rating. I care about cash in my bank. I do not need anyone to tell me whether or not I did good, I am not a dog. I know what I did and didn't do. The entire process is stupid. Just send me an email. Its not like I can disagree and the outcome changes.

Before Navihealth was acquired by Optum, rating of 4 had ~ 3% increase and bonus was fully funded (5% of annual)!! No expectation of goodie boxes and misc give aways, but those get delivered often.

merit never exceeds 2%. this is from my data of a 4 rating for 10+ years

In my area the merits are roughly .... 3's 1.25%, 4's 1.4%, and 5's 1.8%.

Inflation is 2.9%. So EVERYONE is getting a pay cut. No promotions were allowed even though there are several that have earned them.

Last year I got a 5......haven't gotten my rating this year yet. A 5 is still only like a 2% raise so it's whatever

I was RIF’d and last few evals were overall 4 or 5. That has no impact unless you’re terminated.

They do definitely give out 5s, and 4s are pretty common. And if your area is targeted for cost-cutting and layoffs, getting a 4 isn't necessarily going to help, except maybe they will work harder to find a place elsewhere in the org for you.
Depending on the area, some places do have targets for 2s, and that certainly would make it more likely that one would be affected by a layoff. But its definitely not only 2s.

Anyone in this company can get laid off irregardless of your rating. It all depends on funding with the business cost center owners, who your leader is and how much they can get cap and opex will determine if your groups are rifted or sold to other slave leaders for redeploy. Agree on rating based on popularity. Success at UHG are based on your standing with your manager. Must rob rrp from Peter to Paul. If you call HR on your manager, start looking for another job.

It's a total myth that the company does not award 5's. My org shoots for about 30% 5's each year.

My experience is that the rating is a popularity score, how well liked you are and not how skilled you were. If you read the description of 5 no one should get more than one a year since have to walk on water by performing so far above your grade when you are not allowed to! So they give their pet people 5 and other less popular engineers who deserved an above average 4 a 3 instead, as a mgr already posted there are many devious practices at this company!

Yes, I second. Please if anyone knows of anything regarding Preservice dept under Home and Community. Have you heard of any low and unwarranted 2s or low in general?

What sector of Optum? Can anyone comment specifically on Preservice Care Coordinators under Home and Community/navihealth?

You dont need to be on a CAP already to receive a 2. Once you receive a 2 they then put you on a CAP, standard procedure. Once you are on a CAP you are doomed, its a way to get you out the door. I am sure there are few that have survived a CAP once on it

I have always been told (by sr leadership), any employee receiving a 2 had to already be on a CAP. 5's are still given.

A RIF is elimination of the position, not termination of the employee. So you can get a 5 and be RIF’ed.

I had a 4 for my performance review and part of a RIF in 2024

Some brave direct managers have submitted an internal review/appeal to those unwarranted scores but let’s see if it was actually looked at fairly. Senior management and above are all in on it.

I was asked a few times to change my scores and I refused to give a 2 when it wasn’t warranted. I’ll see what happens next week. I may be the one with the 2 but I’ve never gotten below a 4.
I will not damaged my teammates employment record to appease upper leadership. Several others that I know of were asked to do the same.

Yes this happened last year with Senior Mgmt forcing direct management to give people 2s even if NOT deserved, those folks were let go in recent layoffs. With all the cost cutting lately I would imagine this review cycle in a few weeks will see more undserved 2's then ever. Feel bad for folks, brush up your resume. Teams will argue internally about who they have to give 2's too until 1 manager caves in

This I can confirm. Direct manager’s evaluation was pushed to be changed by a senior manager. Senior manager wanted score changed from 3 to 2. If you scored a 2, you will NOT get a RAISE and will NOT get a BONUS. You should only get a 2 or lower if you have some type of PIP or action plan. This person has neither. Kudos to those direct managers that push back but I know they are a rare breed.
