Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Don't quit because of RTO!

I said it before and I'll say it again, as many times as necessary. If you decide to quit due to RTO you're doing Dell leadership a huge favor. As simple as that. I see so many people saying this is what they're planning to do and I want to shake them out of it. Instead, quiet quit and continue collecting your paycheck. Force them to pay you to leave. Hit them where it hurts instead of doing them favors.

I heard of people using a whole roll of toilet paper and paper towels on every bathroom break. Turn brightness up on every laptop. That's crazy.

I guess you should quit and find a new job. If you were to get laid off, you would have to do this anyhow.

This!

"It's even ballsy-er than you can imagine. having to RTO 5d is effectively a paycut for you."

I don't have a car at the moment. I haven't had one for the past 3-4 years. So, in order to go into the office, I would have to buy a car, pay additional insurance for that car, pay tolls, and pay for the extra gas to commute 70 miles RT every day (which would be about 18,000 miles/year so factor in depreciation value on said car). Right now, with the cost of all of those things, I'm looking at at least a $15,000-20,000 decrease per year. That's not including any additional child care costs for anyone with children.

"A five day RTO mandate for a company notorious for going YEARS with ZERO raises across all orgs is a ballsy move."

A five day RTO mandate for a company notorious for going YEARS with ZERO raises across all orgs is a ballsy move. Last raise I got was 3 yrs ago @ 4%. We've had 20%+ inflation since then. Let that sink in

right...if you don't go in, you're doing them a favor also because now they can let you go with no severance for non compliance. Brilliant idea....

Keep in mind a pip will equal 0 package if you fall short of the goals outlined in the pip.

Yes, I plan on just not going in. From what I've been told, they will put anyone who hasn't gone in consistently on a PIP. Typically, with a PIP, they do offer something upfront versus going through the plan. But, in this case, I don't know if they would. I've tried offering different options in order to be able to comply; but none of them have been accepted by my management. So, at this point, they'll just have to discipline me.

"waiting for a layoff to look for a new job"

Depends on your financial setup.

When you Failed as PdM in TSB infrastructure team, but have a $383k salary because the hiring mgr is your biddy and RTO does not affect you.. then you have struck gold.
You can move to AI team and pretend to work there while not making any revenue for 7 yrs straight.
Dell is not cleaning up garbage, it is only spreading the Rot.

Dont work for a company you hate. Its exhausting. If you are waiting for a layoff to look for a new job you are the one that is crazy and you will extend your unemployment time after by not working on a new job now. Reach out to network BEFORE you get laid off. Sometimes people get annoyed when you reach out after when you need them versus reaching out before a need occurs and seeing how they are.

I’m struggling with this. This place has sapped me of any will to keep going. Why wake up earlier to sit in brutal traffic to come make profit for a company you actively hate? The struggle is more than real.

Yes. A few hard rules

  1. quiet quit
  2. do not relocate for this company
  3. dont drink or eat the food on campus
  4. 5day RTO is basically a paycut to you; do likewise

#3 is they've drastically cut down on costs on everything.
