Thread regarding Cummins Inc. layoffs

Cummins Care lay offs

In November, the Digital Products / Electronic Services and Subscriptions teams in care were told they are being laid off in 6 months and their jobs are being sent to India.

Fast forward to this month (February 2025) and they just told everyone in Product Service Information (owner/ end user/independent shop support) and the Service Provider Support (Dealer service support) the same thing- due to WARN, they have to give them all 6 months notice and their jobs are being moved to India.

This affects all front line support.

The official word is that they are justifying this as being performed for their Destination Zero Program.

@v24 The policy was revamped this year fyi. I think laid off people can rejoin after a year after their payments stop and some other rehire changes.

@txc Common in UK factories. But have read about other places too. Mostly happens where Cummins is the main employer in town so locals work there for generations.
The saddest part of it, that the lost talent cannot ever be recovered too, “thanks” to Cummins ‘no-rehire’ policy. (I tend to believe that this policy was likely introduced by some offended person who was able to get rid of a colleague they didn’t like and did not want to see them coming back again. :D )

I hear a lot about protecting family on these threads. Just curious, is this at factories? If not, where in the business?
I can’t think of an example of this in my 12 years, but maybe my location is too remote?

@st1 This was waiting to happen for some time now because during past layoffs many talented and experienced people were let go so friends and family of management could be kept safe from being made redundant. But in most cases those that were saved were not the best performers or fit for the job at all. Now the company has to bear the results of this boys/girls club culture.

@h12 You're right, it's like that in CTC and in other places but I think that isn't going to work anymore. You see the problem with making it lean from a year and a half ago about the direct reports and how everyone was changing roles and moving individuals to save them because they are friends or family is the fact that there is no spare personnel. So now it's so lean that it's either them or their friend, them or their family member etc. etc. etc.. The good ole boy and girl network has lost alot of its punch and benefactors because many of those individuals have retired already and/or left the company.

Leadership has zero clue what they are doing, the same mistake was made 5 years ago in February and they had to hire 2000 people back. Now so many people are being laid off and are able to apply for a position “if they find one” to be safe but the problem is, skill sets does not matter, people are hiring people because they know them or can save them. It’s like picking and choosing who to save from a collapsing building. Cummins leadership has also said regarding India being the first point of contact for support “the customers will just have to get used to it”. I know where my mind goes when I answer my phone or call a business and the end result is someone from India on the other line. Nothing against India. But American jobs need to stay in America.

Zero emissions will never happen, the only way it will is when they have Zero employees

Robert Simmons and most of the leaders are a joke, they think that laying off American workers and hiring in India will work, This will be the death of Cummins , I worked there for 45 years and was laid off from this, they layer of a lot of people with many years experience this should be illegal, I hope that and think they should pay a 500 percent tariff, If Donald Trump holds to his word. Cummins is done, good riddance to bad rubbish……….

I heard of IT manager in India getting laid off. So layoffs are going to happen more in IT. India/US everything. Tariffs are going to hurt Cummins business

Work in India doesn't require H1B. They move work for cheap labor.

Sending this to India will be a disaster. I work In a branch and they just laid off three due to the RDC in Vegas.
