Big layoff at VB in January 2025. It was like a scene from a movie - people getting meeting invites from HR , others just standing around waiting for a manager to tap them on the shoulder and tell them they are out. Wide eyes as the surprise sets in that departments are being reduced to barely functional levels. People crying, people walking around in shock. Entire departments and shifts gutted. People who worked hard and delivered more than was asked, under budget and on time, but due to the failed rebrand, there are very deep cuts. Management does not understand how all the tools, technology, and systems work, or what the already thin team was doing to keep it all working. They assume if they don't know what you do, you are expendable. The executives made a bad call. The employees delivered what was asked. The employees pay the price and the executives flick their fingernails and cash their next paycheck. They coerced everyone to sign documents so that they won't talk about it. It's hard to be convincing in an interview that if your team was so effective, why were they laid off? Well, they effectively delivered what was asked and they trusted the leadership to lead.
