Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

How are you all dealing with stress?

Some of you can handle this, but some of us can't. I'm already a nervous wreck when it comes to my job, thanks to an incompetent and unpredictable manager. Now, with layoffs in the mix, I'm this close to asking my doctor for medication just to bring my BP down. I can't take months and months of this.

Take matters into your own hands and put your health first. I'm afraid to say that people say they care and will be there for you but when it comes down to it they won't. I've seen it destroy people. Please don't let it happen to you. And if your doctor is dismissive, find one that isn't, a lot of them are clowns. Trust your judgement.

Just like others have said, go see your doctor NOW…. Call the EAP, or something, because I can promise you that, at the end of the day, BP will NOT care about you. Through this whole process, they are only circling the wagons and taking care of themselves.

We are all just numbers on an excel sheet that someone from McKinsey, Accenture, or another overpriced consulting firm is managing…

Like someone mentioned, I’ll got take a walk around or go sit over by the pond at WL2.

Don't let Bp do this to you. They couldn't care less if they tried.

They've sent themselves down a bad road with momentum in the wrong direction and you need to get off the ride first chance you get.

I forgot what a healthy work place was until I got some distance.

As someone that received a layoff notice, my stress levels have actually gone down in recent weeks. Let’s face it: leadership is poor, office culture is terrible, and looking ahead long-term the work that is being outsourced is ultimately going to fall on the shoulders of those that are chosen to stay. The company’s best days are far behind it— why stay onboard a sinking ship? Hopefully, the business can salvage the little name prestige it has over the next few months so I can use it to catapult to the next stage of my career.

Take the recommendations indicated below. Additionally, I have found that exercise has always been a great stress reliever. After work fits me best and helps to decompress and leave work behind. Also taking a short, quiet walk by yourself at lunch is calming and helps clear your head. Best of luck to you.

There is no shame in going to your doctor to get medications to ease the anxiety. Yes, many of us are stressed out as you are. Just terrible. It's mainly the outside job market that is stressful due to low opportunities.

I've used EAP to get counselling recently.
Genuinely independent support.
Also, go to your doctor. Get signed off. I've done that too.
Look after yourself, because you're just a number to BP

Please get medical help. I know where you're coming from. High BP is a silent ki-ler. For me, I wasn't sleeping well and it led to higher BP. At the office, I kept to myself to finish what I had to do. Also, take the recommendation to talk to EAP.

I know it’s hard, but there is help.

Call the EAP number, I’ve used them and they are really really good, independent and confidential.

Sorry to read about this. Don't hestate to see your doctor, particularly if your BP is being affected. That's what doctors are there for - to look after you.
