I posted earlier about being a minority engineer who opposes AA/DEI without merit. In this post, I want to emphasize that my job was outsourced to India. That was a main factor in voting for Trump. The outsourcing happened while Walz was governor of MN. So, that was a disappointment. Since my job was outsourced, I have since learned on LinkedIn that it wasn't just me. I feel bad for young engineering students with high hopes of doing an internship and getting a full time job at Medtronic when it can just get outsourced. Maybe the new election cycle can impede outsourcing.

From pure engineering analysis, outsourcing has many flaws. A big one is in design error. Remember the Challenger Disaster? That was rooted in design error. Outsourcing often highly elevates the risk of design error. I was at one medical device engineering firm. They had been documenting the engineering design with requirements and testing using HP QC. The client, a large Fortune 500 medical device company, thought their work was too expensive. So, they outsourced it to India.

But about a year later, the same client returned to that onsite engineering firm. It turns out the software design from the outsourced team was too flawed and inundated with errors. It had to be rewritten from scratch. But rather than keeping it offshore, the client decided to bring it back onshore and have the same engineering firm noted above rewrite it correctly (which they did).

Outsourcing often backfires like that. I've seen it many times in my career with medical devices - especially class II or III.

The products we manufacture in Mexico are not owned by Mexico. They are a Maquilladora arrangement.

@cv+1jk2ya602, I hope you're right. I know our supply chain is very fragile.
