Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Stop

Stop:

Blaming remotes that are away from an office, the company hired them or approved the move and then went back in that- or will be.

Fretting over returning. Some people like it. If you don’t, get out. Why work for a company you hate?

Thinking you can’t get another job. Brush up on skills (because I guarantee you got none at Dell) and prop yourself up. No one is going to do it for you.

Talking about quiet quitting. Does it really make you feel better? You do the right thing, just don’t have to go above and beyond- they did after all go back on their word.

Worrying about what everyone else is doing. Again, if it doesn’t work for you- get out. Do not wait to be laid off- that package will do nothing for you when you have to explain WHY you got laid off.

Now:
People- pick yourself up and get moving. Not having to think about layoffs at Dell, or returning to office is the best feeling.

Change your life, before they change it for you. Don’t sit and wait. WHO CARES if it’s what they are waiting for, for people to quit. When they lose all the good talent, they will see the error in their ways.

Why would you want to work for a company that changes its policies like the wind? Clearly not stable.

Tech is horrible right now. It is NOT getting better.

Get ahead of the game- now is the time to move on.

After 5 years its about time everyone goes back to office 5 days a week!!!
If you were hired remote pre-covid then you should be able to stay remote.
Other wise for all other employees the party is over! GO back to work 5 days or get another job its pretty plain and simple.

The time to get out was a year ago when they first did 3 days a week hybrid. I knew this was coming then. I looked for the right role for a year before finding one that I accepted. It is hard work but just keep applying, look for contacts who could refer you. Reach out to your network. If you weren't already looking for a new job, then you are behind the curve but you can still apply now. Dell is a garbage company but a lot of the people at the IC level are amazing and deserve better than this.

Don't be butthurt because you didn't move out into the country when you had a chance.

You wanted to stay near a city, to be where the action is, to be near "people"

Now you get what you wanted.

well dell is full of "software extras" which do almost nothing or just create obstacles for others or to build their job security.

To be fair, how many actual employees does Dell really need?

It’s a commodity player with no unique tech nor differentiation. It just slaps together boxes from commodity parts provided by real tech companies, installs software from actual tech companies like Microsoft, adds a percent or two in gross margin, slaps on a Dell logo, and ships it.

You could probably run the entire operation with fewer than 100 people.
