Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Director roles should be merged down

Perhaps it's time to merge Director roles downwards? Additionally, remove the leader aspect from the role entirely since many struggle with that anyway, in my experience.

Dell has already moved some Directors around due to their inability to lead their teams but maybe it's time for a greater initiative.

"Directors are not the problem. Senior execs are."

That's an inaccurate blanket statement.

Plenty of Directors at Dell, who make very bad decisions and no signs of correcting that or taking accountability for their poor decision making.

As another poster mentioned, moving them around is one thing that happens and it doesn't resolve the issue. Not saying there aren't any problems in any other departments...I simply know very well how many Directors operate. And some of their behaviors are a bit shocking. People need to take accountability for their bad decision making and stop repeating those mistakes. That's how good humans operate.

Directors are not the problem. Senior execs are.

Directors are on the front lines of creating bullsh-t custom software projects that fake it but never make it just to justify headcount and keep their position. Half can go.

How does shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic fix the problem?

The CEO of the company has admitted in an open email to its employees that its technology doesn’t work and makes the company inefficient. He is deciding to replace tech with traditional office working models from before the advent of networked IT.

If his claim is accurate, why will enterprises continue spending money to buy and support tech that makes them slower than a company in 1935?

When ever a director or senior manager fails they are not fired, the roles are shuffled around. Sort of like when you get a flat tire you rotate all of them to see if it fixes the problem.

Dell will get pigs to fly, or build a working AI before that happens.
