Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Know this. 5 days RTO is not the end of it

It will keep on getting worse. It's not the end of it by any means.
And there will be more anti-remote squeeze incoming.

There’s a massive demographic squeeze coming. The incoming generation of young workers is MUCH smaller than previous generations and moving forward there will be 700K to a million fewer new young workers than in previous years.

Most young workers have already seen the work conditions that their older siblings and parents are dealing with and want no part of it.

Dell won’t be able to convince a shrunken talent pool to move to out of the way so some soulless suburban hellscape like Round Rock or Hopkinton to take a job that might not last more than a year or two before the next big wave of layoffs.

I don’t know what replaces the current model, but there’s no way it lasts, and there’s no way in he-l that we will go back to 80s-style massive suburban office campuses. Those days are done, no matter how much our overlords want to see them return.

There are literally over 10,000 remote employees who don't live near an office. Many of whom use to, before Dell permanently closed their office during the pandemic. How was it a choice to stay remote when Dell closed their office? Now Dell wants to punish them for it? "You can move to one of the remaining offices, but you'll have to pay for it yourself."

This company is a farce.

It wont “get worse” for remotes. They will get the count through Q1 and then the people who don’t RTO will catch the Ax. Which is why they have been hiring again and doing training classes. They are prepping to give Remotes the boot come Q2. The good news? Use the time to phone it in and then take the severance (as someone who wants out with severance im jealous)

Ireland and the UK have protected employees from discrimination, including unfair dismissal or lack of promotion, since Dell and other companies began talking about the differences in approach, promotions, layoffs from remotes. It is also outlined on internal company pages that totalitarian practices do not apply for these countries. However, it is concerning that, should the company choose to
discriminate against remote workers, there may be little to prevent it unless the country revises its labor laws.

exactly. it will get worse and worse for remotes.
every remote is on the defensive now as to why they are remote.
they treat their people like furniture. remotes will be a class less than furniture.

Remote is dead for Dell

In the FAQ it said that remotes can't progress via the annual pay planning, this means no pay rises for remotes

Then there will be no bonus for remotes

Then there will be no remotes

Dell backtracking and reneging once again.
They changed the terms again and not within 6 months of the previous agreement.

The next phase will be directly aimed at any remotes left on the payroll
