So, I understand what devastation, stress and turmoil that a layoff can potentially cause for a person, family, etc. It's terrible and scary. Thank goodness or those who are able to apply and utilize unemployment benefits to help bridge the gap until a new job is found.
But-After working for this pathetic company for 2.5 years, I've learned that Optum/UHG is nothing short of terribly horrendous, discriminatory, unfair, downright disrespectful and selfish. The few people that work in my dept. were basically demoted to work as call center reps without realizing what they were doing and by then it was already done. They've set unobtainable benchmarks that set us up for constant failure, but never offer to hire more people. I have not received any type of bonus or raise since coming over to Optum. Not. Once. Their policies and "benefits" are disgusting and they should be embarrassed that they do not support or offer quailty benefits to their staff. I could go on and on and on....
But long story short, after hearing that layoffs are a most likely going to happen and continue to happen, is it wrong that I have my fingers crossed and praying that I do in fact get cut? Some short term struggle is nothing compared to what nightmares Optum has and will continue to throw at us.

Time to get some power back. Actively pursue another job. Actively interview for new position. That is the way to determine what you truly want and see what is also available. #1 The wages here are not market rate. Once you see what it is out there, the rate, the variety all the stress goes away. #2 The same job exists at so many companies. You may discover you don't even like this job and find something more interesting.
I'm totally with you. this place is horrible, where a director can ruin a career with the blink of an eye because she doesn't like how you dress or how you have your background office staged. Yes. I said it, the director I work for had a meeting and announced that the background for one of the speakers was totally staged and that was wrong to do. I hope Karma hits the Business Ops side of Optum Serve fast and thoroughly. Heck those auditors sit around for a week a month with nothing to do but twiddle their thumbs.
I felt the same way in the months prior to my layoff. Constant changes, moving around, unobtainable benchmarks, etc. They also took one of our functions and sent it 13 hours away. They didn't come right out and say it was India but we had to send a list of charts to this group and all the names sounded Indian. I knew the writing was on the wall and started preparing. Didn't expect it to happen so quickly and it su-ks losing the income, routine and structure but at least now I don't have to worry about when something might happen.
I agree, I have been here 8 months. This is the absolute worst company I have ever worked for.
I'd look for a better job while you hope to get laid off, I know I am. Happy hunting and try and focus on life outside of work.
Quitting doesn't come with severance, and this company may not pay out PTO depending on the state you live in.
you could just quit lol
