Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

I’ve been working hard on having a backup plan

I want to be prepared for whatever comes next with Intel—whether it’s layoffs, RTO, restructuring, or selling parts of the company. The uncertainty has lasted too long, and working on alternatives has helped me manage the stress and anxiety, which otherwise would be paralyzing. However, searching for another job while trying to prepare for different scenarios has been just as demoralizing. The job market is brutal!

It won’t be easy to scam your next employer, time to buckle up and face the harsh reality.

Backup plan:

  1. Live WELL BELOW your current means. At the most, 50% of your current income.
  2. Have AT LEAST 12 months of full salary, in the bank (or readily convertible funds.) DO NOT COUNT POTENTIAL SEVERANCE OR UNEMPLOYMENT IN THIS 12 MONTHS OF SAVED SALARY!
  3. Work on creating multiple income streams outside of your current skill-set. As my mom used to say "What ELSE can you do, if you can no longer [make money] doing what you've been doing?"
  4. Go learn a new skill ENTIRELY OUTSIDE of your skills today. Choose something interesting and see what you can do with it.
  5. Be emotionally prepared for your badge to stop working AT ANY GIVEN TIME!
