Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Unconventional post

Does anyone in corporate know if you can volunteer as tribute for a layoff?

I have been with the company just over 10 years now and would hate to walk away empty handed.

After ample cuts in my dept. I am doing the work of two people and underpaid. Rather leave with severance and some semblance of my dignity intact.

I cosign. Rather have a break then continue with limited rescoures and support.

Why offer severance or early retirement options when the company can simply make jobs untenable, building a culture of turnover which helps keeps the average pay rates low? We are once again adding jobs back into middle management at the division and region levels while continuing to eliminate positions at store level. Seems counterintuitive when the new strategy for 2025 is supposed to be about increasing service at store level and really improving our customer experience.

I have known of people who were nearing retirement who volunteered to be laid off years ago. It worked out well for them. and if they need to lay someone off, it’s one less person they have to worry about.

No and I definitely wouldn’t ask this. Just like the other commenter said, they will put a target on you and fire you for something. Companies don’t really like to pay severances to begin with so I wouldn’t risk it. Just look for something else.

Honestly, just start looking for a new job now and save yourself the trouble. Go out on your own terms, as soon as you mention this you’ll give them a reason to fire you for poor performance.
