Thread regarding White Cap layoffs

Remote Workers

During recent group calls, it has been suggested that employees residing in the Atlanta area are encouraged to work from the office, as it will positively impact their career growth. Does this suggest that remote workers, elsewhere, might be at risk of being pushed out? Or be negativity impacted due to location?

@2rc I have seen this very thing. I was a remote worker, not in GA, and received a PIP style review during the last annual review (never had a bad review in my life until here; should also mention I have a qualified disability) and today was laid off.

The latest job openings are only considering hybrid arrangements. This decision is going to significantly limit the talent pool. They're going to have a tough time attracting a sufficient number of qualified candidates, especially given the competitive salaries demanded in the Atlanta market.
It’s concerning to hear about potential remote worker discrimination. Actively and openly pushing out remote workers would indeed raise serious ethical and legal issues. Unfortunately, given the track record of the “professional geniuses” in HR (note the sarcasm), it wouldn't shock me if there were plans to make remote workers uncomfortable or unfairly rate them lower, potentially leading to performance improvement plans (PIPs).
If you’re noticing patterns like this, it might be worth documenting incidents and having a candid discussion with a trusted leader within the organization. It’s important that all employees, regardless of work arrangement, have equal opportunities for career growth and are treated fairly.
