Thread regarding Optum layoffs

WARN Notice 2025

The most recent WARN notice from Optum Care, Inc. in Maryland was filed on January 23, 2025, affecting 18 employees in Hagerstown, with layoffs scheduled for March 24, 2025.

It’s important to note that not all layoffs meet the criteria for a WARN notice. The WARN Act requires employers to provide a 60-day notice for mass layoffs affecting 50 or more employees at a single site. If the layoffs are distributed across multiple locations or involve fewer employees per site, a WARN notice may not be mandated.

Never seems to be layoffs for middle management - only bottom rung people. Any US employee leaving voluntarily can ONLY be replaced with offshore - primarily in India. Onshore IT staff is slowly getting replaced by offshore. AI being used as an excuse to cover up the blatant practice.

I just looked up the WARN notice for Maryland. The address listed was a WellMed urgent care clinic. Most likely they closed the clinic.

Now I wonder how many will be impacted by the March RIF. Will it be like the 1/23/25 RIF? Everyone should definitely protect their income.

This is the game human capital play to stay under the radar. That’s why we have continued rifts. We will not stop so folks need to swallow that pill if you want any career at UHG. AI, India offshores are ways that corporation has mitigated against highly paid Americans (when compared to third world countries). Good luck everyone. UHG is operating legal definitions of WARN threshold.

Over 300 employees just got laid off from the home health department which is totally remote so doesn’t meet the warn mandate as they are dismantling and restructuring the entire home health department at Optum. They are outsourcing these jobs overseas according to one article. All during a time when President Trump is trying to keep jobs here. Just thought that was interesting.
