Severance negotiation

Is there some room for severance package negotiation? (e.g., more days/years of service, extended health insurance coverage, etc).

The severance package is industry leading…. Shell is more than reasonable.

you should threaten to quit if they don’t offer you a better severance package

The only thing you may be able to negotiate is the day you leave. If you are a good performer they may agree to let you stay longer so they can su-k more of the life out of you.

Who would you negotiate with? Certainly not the ER staff on the other side of the desk following the formulaic explanation.

Only option is an attorney who may be able to establish grounds for wrongful dismissal. Difficult, with a long, drawn out doubtful outcome.

Take the package and leave Shell in the rearview.

Unfortunately I’ve had friends in this spot, and there is zero negotiation. You can consult with an employment attorney for a free consult and compare the numbers.

For the US, severance formulas are laid out in the 2024 Offboarding Guide. I don't see room to negotiate--what is your leverage?
