I’ve heard that people in California, specifically those whose colleagues which were not located in California & were laid off Thursday, were temporarily spared because of the fires?
From my perspective I can see a handful of California located folks that were spared from one team in Optum Health & all of their non - California teammates were laid off.
Does anyone know if this is true in other teams…and is it really only temporary & these California people will be laid off in a future round?

This is absolutely true across all Optum at least. All California residents, regardless of location, were temporarily removed from the RIF list. The CA residents that were identified for Jan RIF will be notified in April 2025.

That would be pure coincidence. If the business identified CA employees for the chopping block they are gone since first rule of business is get rid of all CA employees the state is not business friendly.
This company has no heart or soul, more like an evil empire of short term profits!
I know this layoff is going to happens 3 months ago, because managers told me next layoff will be in mid January , so I’m not surprised that i’m in the list, managers hide informations from employees specially if you work remotely and I’m outsider ….applying internal no chance you will get it, unless if you have very strong connections.
Nice to think that this company has a soul and a heart.
doubt it, the lists are made way in advance and during the hurricanes i know people who were laid off while being displaced and having their home underwater
ehh... might be coincidence. I read this same page that someone got laid off during the flooding in the Carolinas last year
