Thread regarding PayPal layoffs

Final Approach to 30th - by Friday we will know

Previous years any layoffs occurred on or near 30th. Know its painful for those worried and those hoping for a package. However, its cruel for anyone to post mis-information like of receiving notices in some region if this has not really occurred. Ask people show a little compassion and not do this over the next few days.

On its face, there are no indicators this is coming other than new Pay for Performance construct requiring 5% of employee population needs improvement. On the other hand, launching Pay for Performance in December and retroactively applying when no documentation through the year was captured raises some ethical questions. My trust is breached with leadership. I believe both futures are possible this week.

As others have pointed out, each of us must decide if this culture is right fit. I have made my decision. I don't have the moral flexibility to advance in my career at PayPal and Thursday will just help me determine timing.

For what its worth, leaders who were forced to put someone into "Needs Improvement" without any documentation are now being told to prepare to create documentation in February for last year 2024 and go forward in 2025. While that is its own topic, sort of removes the idea that a "Needs Improvement" rating would be the population for layoffs in January. There would no need to retroactively create supporting documentation for people laid off. However, given lack of coordination of programs in HR, could be one hand managing performance management is unaware what other hand is doing 😂

Hearing nothing here, CEO email usually indicates something and it was all positive and good when it went out on Tuesday. It looks like this year for the first time in many there will be no layoffs unless they do something prior to this weekend. Feels like it will be a clean start to the year this time. There is no information anyone knows and those who do wont come here to comment on it. I guess if we see the months end we are good for any mass layoffs.

Kind of the point for the anonymous chat board named "Thread regarding PayPal layoffs" For people to share what they are thinking. If we knew for sure, this board would not be needed.

I can relate to comment on unjust situations - In some areas, the culture is creating army of working wounded or sycophants who put self interest first. With the new Needs Improvement no one will want to be identified as problem or one that raises issues. Fear managers instead of asking for help.

I’m one of those hoping for the package. I’m from tech group. I’m confident for my skill and don’t worry about the job market. Why I don’t leave myself is because the severance will be big in my country and I can’t leave with nothing. If it doesn’t happen, I will get back to work and wait until next year. I won’t put passion into anything at the company because, during the last two rounds of layoffs, I witnessed some unjust situations. Some well-performing employees in the team were laid off, while others were promoted solely due to their close personal relationships with the manager.
