We are down to half a team, and now I am concerned about what will happen to the rest of us. My best guess is that we will be reassigned, as there is no way to maintain our previous workload with half the staff. Has anyone been in a similar situation during previous layoffs? If so, what was the outcome?

Yep! They get rid of half of a group. Then “re-organize”. The remaining people hate working for the company and can’t wait to leave. Of course all the business “empty suits” who are present in large quantity and do nothing, are never eliminated.
teams are always cut in half then moved around
wow! my manager lot 10 people, i’m one of them, yesterday she got new people from diferrent dept ? go figure???
For us it was business as usual after each therapeutic Teams meeting of grief/taking care of you/new normal. They did not end services, the people just got laid off. Then quietly changes were made like taking away lunch breaks and soon demands were increased on things like timelines decreased to complete tasks.
