Change to Remote promotion policy?

When the Hybrid Work policy sharepoint was created with a list of FAQs dated 01 May 2024, the #8 question under Remote work questions read “if I am remote, can I still get promoted in my current role?” and the answer read as “at career levels below I9, in role promotions may be considered on a case-by-case basis during annual rewards planning”.

This Q&A has since been updated to remove mention of any career level and instead states a requirement of “re-classification to hybrid, field or onsite and/or ELT and COO approval”.

What changed? How shady to update the wording but leave the date as 01 May 2024

Several of my remote colleagues got promoted this year - not application based promotion though, meaning their raise comes out of the teams annual merit raise budget and they get less than if they had applied to a position.

Remember, the company holds all the cards when it comes to policy.
Only unions are protected by the whims of management.
Anyone hear Union gossip?

"There will be no promotions for anyone I8 and above who is remote."

At this point it's probably in your best interest to not get promoted (not that they are doing them anyhow). I10s and I9s are first to get WFRd since the layoffs are to cut dollars and have nothing to do with merit.

Read the policy, it specifically says it is always subject to change and you can view the revision control dates. They gave you access to the information, it is your responsibility to stay up to date.

The sh---y thing at Dell is rules for thee but not for me. There are entire parts of legacy EMC that don’t go to office at all. Every big rule like this immediately sees uppers grant exceptions to buddies.

There's someone on my team getting promoted this cycle from I6 to I7 and they are remote. I guess they might be getting even more strict moving forward.
