Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Who made the decision?

I was a part of the mass layoff back in November. While I was told it wasn’t personal, other members of my team still remain today.

I guess it would be nice to have some closure as to why it was me and not someone else.

Thoughts?

No one has cared about the people since SP bought the company. Everyone is a number and it’s all about the bottom line and su-king every profit dollar for the very few at the top. Tenure and experience is not valued. If they can do the job cheaper that’s the path. Period.

It is personal when you are the one affected by a layoff. Everyone is just a number at Staples. When you have been at a company for 15+ years, been a loyal and dedicated employee, have a great work ethic, and do NOT make more money than your peers how is that not personal. The company has really changed. They used to care about their employees!

Could be pay. If your are paid significantly higher than your peers, you could have been a target due to the cost savings measures they were taking

It could have been political, gender based, your haircut, anything. I’ve heard some pretty interesting and questionable stuff related to who stayed and who exited.

Sorry you lost your job. If you want closure, find a new one. Layoffs are part of business. The worse the business, the more the layoffs. (Staples good at lots of layoffs).

It’s the hunger games, sinking ship, pick the analogy that resonates with you. People have to go. Staples is in a dying industry with the exception of facilities, you shouldn’t be surprised.

One of these more than likely

Not a good performer
Bad attitude
Tenured and higher comped than your peers

Longer tenure and higher compa ratio? They have a math problem, they can’t solve it by laying off inexpensive employees.

Why do people always take these layoffs personal. It has nothing to do with any individual personally, all companies have layoffs. I've been laid off twice and brought back and never took it personal. If thry thought I waa a bad employee thry would have never brought me back. Don't blame your manager or think your more entitled than the people that are still here. It has nothing to do with that. Go get a job elsewhere instead of dwelling on this.

Maybe you should have a conversation with HR and not keep blaming your manager. It is out of their hands. It is higher up then that and if you have been around for awhile you would know that. There have been thousands of GOOD people let go.

If you give me a hint at your team I can probably tell you why?
