Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Logic of cuts

The store teams' are stretched to the max. Since all these stores are closing doesn't logic dictate cuts should largely come out of corporate as their responsibilities are diminished?

They need to get rid of all these contractors. What good have they really done? Week after week, our reports are always breaking, not uploading, missing data, not being sent on time. It’s always something. Why are we wasting money on an outside source who aren’t close to the product, don’t understand all the nuances to the business and are basically making the lives of corporate employees, more difficult. Sorry but they need to go.

Wonder why there weren’t as many sign ups from Central to work in stores last Black Friday.

We can't cut Central any further. The reason EVERYTHING in store is broken is that there aren't enough people supporting behind the scenes. People were cut and their responsibilities never assigned and "Oops, the markdowns don't get loaded" or "Oops, the signing direction is wrong, again" or "Oops, we directed a specific process for a national function and our servers can't handle that process."

It has been almost 6 years now that the Macys Tech field support team was cut in a surprise announcement. Some people were brought back in certain functions, but mostly if they bring you back it’s in a contractor role or as a vendor like NCR. My advice is always be diligent and prepared for the worst in case it happens. With the state of retail, especially brick and mortar sites in this day and age always be prepared with your résumé to look for something else.

We cut a Ft and a Pt in AYS. Tell me the logic in that when we are busy there all the time. Returns are insane. Hoping neither will leave because we can't rehure the jobs now.

Excuse me but they have stripped corporate down so much. People are doing the jobs of 3-4 people now. I used to manage 5 depts. I’m now managing almost 30. So no, corporate doesn’t need to be stripped down anymore than it already is.

They’ve also been eliminating positions in certain areas throughout the year as corporate colleagues leave.

They cut corporate hard a year ago

They seem to be quietly parting ways with employees that have been with the company for 20+ years. Most likely a cost factor.

This has happened twice this year in my department within the last few months.
