Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

How many of you feel like a lot of managers don't do a thing?

They seem to just relay messages from one level to the next and they think that's work. A lot of them just do their little townhalls never to be seen/heard of again and never seeking any type of tangible improvement or ideas in their departments. And anytime something is brought to them for change or improvements, they just act bothered and do nothing about it. They just relay Jane's and the board's messages each level down and they think that's managing.

My managers are up and down people. I don't trust them as far as I can throw them. The minute I think they are being helpful they use stuff to push their own agenda and steal ideas. I don't even care what i do anymore or projects I have. Only counting down time to go offline and try to forget this place. Sorry but it's true. I'm burnt out from so much stupid behavior and childish managers who are playing a game of Hogwarts chess with people's life. Karma someday will get them for sure.

If it was just programmers reporting directly to board of directors with nobody in between that would be best. And the board of directors should also all be programmers of course.

I too have good managers but I live in fear that at anytime they may be managed out or I’m chosen to go elsewhere. The managers I have are a rare breed compared to the others. There are so many other managers at Citi that I would not be able to work for. So many rotten apples in the managerial barrel.

I am very fortunate. My managers look out for us and make sure we get the training we need as we need it. They protect us and listen to us. For my manager and skip level manager, I have no complaints.

As a manager I am always doing things sometimes this sometimes that. Sometime both this and that at the same time. I'm very organized though. Don't try that at home.

Sounds like the managers are managing! Good job as the analysts do the work

1000% accurate, especially at Citi.
Managers are dead weight. Citi could easily remove 2 or 3 layers of management without any impact to business or deliverables.

If they stopped at sending messages it won’t hurt much but they more mess to keep their positions they create problems, demotivate resource, they are in such a mind set even org fails its fine for them, they want to happen things as they need, I never seen a manager learning some thing new and motivate their resource instead they fight between them to prove their point is right all are narrow minded managers.

Hence why Citi tried to flatten the structure. This is a problem in all big corporations nowadays, consequence of the refusal of the companies to pay properly - so people insist on becoming managers to get a chance of decent pay increase.
