I wish Dell would offer the same or better severance than the federal government for DEI folks. Eight months plus medical? Not too shabby!

Who does the email come from? Boss or HR or a made up group, like Marketing Series/discuss company feedback type cr-p? Howich room is there to negotiate package?

This Friday or over the weekend. Decent Managers & Directors (with Souls) have probably already talked to those impacted - "heads up."

I had a one on one at 8:30 am on a Monday and last day was a Friday. My boss was always extremely late for every one of my one on ones except that one. HR was on the call also. Good riddance I am out of there.

I would advice anyone who will be made redundant to fight for a better severance package.
If you've given a company many years of commitment that is the least you all deserve.
Is there different packages been offered to different people regarding their location. I heard France workers got a much higher severance package.
I don't want WFR BUT if I am offered it I will negotiate if I can. I'm too old to be made a fool of. Speak up. It used to be 6 weeks with a cap at 2 years.
I hope this is just a rumour

"Is that for real that it’s only 2 months this time? No week for every year? I figured they’d do that at some point but they must be laying off a ton of people to want to save that much in severance."

Unless things have drastically changed:

  • COBRA (health insurance) is only covered for 2 months
  • Severance Package is 2 months + 1 week for every year TO A MAX OF 26 WEEKS*. So basically any time over 18 years doesn't help.
  • The 26 weeks limit is the min requirement for the ERISA Act.

Hopefully this will help explain the two different time periods people are discussing. It can be confusing. I highly recommend doing some google searches on ERISA and the laws to understand what happens.

Feb 3rd - 5th. Now the kicker, the package will only cover 2 months.

Friday before or during the weekend. If you already have a preplanned 1:1 it could be repurposed. Usually comes from zoom. I’d say week of Feb 3rd and Feb 10th are important weeks. Does not have to be on a Monday. Usually done by Wednesdays though.

It’s not the end of the world. Get the severance, unemployment. Your resume should be ready to go.

Have confidence in yourself. You can find another job. Dell is not the end all be all. If they don’t want you, chin up look forward, consider yourself lucky to be out. There’s another company out there eager to meet you and will appreciate you. You will experience these layoffs at Dell for at least a few more years.

Best of luck. You can do this.
