Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

DEI Org

Any news on if Jane is going to hang onto the DEI Org structure?

The DOJ's Civil Rights lawyers and regulators have been tasked with coming up with a list of targets for each economic sector and Citi seemed to have really leaned into this.

Civil Rights Laws in the US prohibits hiring, promoting, or firing based on race, color, religion, s-x or national origin.

Does anyone believe that Citi did not violate Civil Rights laws when they implemented DEI?

Note that they used to ask this question on the VOE but stopped after we had a DEI org.

All the mediocre white men at Citi and they are worried about DEI. The leadership at Citi is white and Indian, now tell me who is messing up the bank. Worry about jobs going to India.

Good luck to all those DEI white women, over 50 and disable DEI hires.

People are not very smart. People think DEI = black people. Just doing a little research you can find the definition of DEI. Good luck to anyone that falls under the below:

DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) includes people from a wide range of backgrounds, encompassing differences in race, ethnicity, gender, s-xual orientation, age, disability, religion, socioeconomic status

From what I've seen and heard, No DEIs were Laidoff in the Risk Department. They were not touched even if they're Incompetent or Unskilled.

DEI is reverse discrimination, but it's still discrimination.

At least @GS and JP, they manage out Incompetent DEI hires by making them fake managers with little to no power or influence, giving them as little work as possible so that they don't Fvck Up and lose the Bank millions of dollars or lose clients, etc..

There are numerous surreptitious tactics used. GS and JP may not Fire them or lay them off, but they'll eventually get so frustrated or bored with their jobs, and so they quit voluntarily.

I've witnessed this happen. The Incompetent DEI left to go work for a Lower Caliber Bank........Citi.

Yeah DEI was the big problem, not the layers and layers of management who play doing something, earn lots of money, and burden employees wasting their time because they want to look good on paper. What’s the difference between one lazy incompetent DEI hire and one lazy old incompetent director? The latter one costs way more to pretend to be doing something.

DEI and ESG are abject failures. Anti-black racism is particularly strange, as it effectively creates a perceived discrimination hierarchy where one particular group’s historical mistreatment somehow overshadows the suffering of other minorities - radical left agendas can gladly disappear.

Jane jumped all in on it for political posturing and to give the sentiment that we are progressive. So yeah, there was a massive DEI hire, skilled or not, they were given top preference AND some employees were assigned to make sure they succeeded. They were goaled in fact to make sure they looked good. Whether that was doing the work for them when the going got tough or not. NOW that’s NOT every DEI hire but it was quite a few of them. Now how do I know that. I know this not only because I’ve seen it but also because I was one of the ones goaled on making sure the DEI excelled at all cost.

Gotta have those bragging rights to show case on the next slido “See, these guys are doing great in record time. This is proof it was a good idea to hire them over other experienced people”.

Before anyone asks, no, I will not be telling you any details. I need my paycheck and I don’t want to be fired for telling the truth.

A company should aim to pursue greater profits. If it hires many people who are unqualified for their positions just for the sake of diversity, wouldn’t that be a joke?

Is DEI a joke because it opened doors for everyone that's not a straight white man?

Trump's Executive Order for the DOJ Civil Rights org includes this.

(i) Key sectors of concern within each agency’s jurisdiction;

(ii) The most egregious and discriminatory DEI practitioners in each sector of concern;

(iii) A plan of specific steps or measures to deter DEI programs or principles (whether specifically denominated “DEI” or otherwise) that constitute illegal discrimination or preferences. As a part of this plan, each agency shall identify up to nine potential civil compliance investigations of publicly traded corporations, large non-profit corporations or associations, foundations with assets of 500 million dollars or more, State and local bar and medical associations, and institutions of higher education with endowments over 1 billion dollars;

(iv) Other strategies to encourage the private sector to end illegal DEI discrimination and preferences and comply with all Federal civil-rights laws;

(v) Litigation that would be potentially appropriate for Federal lawsuits, intervention, or statements of interest; and

(vi) Potential regulatory action and sub-regulatory guidance.

Of course they’ve hired such a person. It makes just as much sense as anything else they’ve done….you know decisions that led us down this layoff road we are on right now.
It’s those decisions makers who came up with this idea.

We have a c16 in Client org with no direct reports (besides rotational analysts and an admin) that basically acts as a consultant to business partners to ensure more is done in products to boost DEI. Make it make sense :/

Look guys, Jane is following the Citi tried and true playbook. Wait to see what the other banks do, then play catch up. This is all she has, she’s got nothing else. Since all the banks have poured in tons of $ in the DEI for political posturing when it was popular with the democrats, its hard to roll it back and admit its a loss just because the republicans aren’t all that warm and fuzzy over it. Its a bitter pill to swallow to say “yeah, we spent millions on ‘x’, now its no longer en vogue”. It’d be considered a loss and failure.
It won’t go away anytime soon. You’ll still get the emails and still see the posters at work.
It doesn’t matter what else is on fire, for now, the pronoun enforcement is here to stay.

If all the other big banks are keeping DEI, we'll probably just be following them: https://financialpost.com/news/jpmorgan-goldman-resist-dei-roll-back
