Thread regarding Optum layoffs

If you were spared in this layoff

Think about protecting your income.

  1. Take your floating holiday. It won’t get paid if you’re RIFed
  2. Know your state’s PTO payout policy. If you have over 40 hours banked, it’s state dependent on whether that gets paid
  3. Max out your 401k.
  4. Make sure your internal network is strong - references may be needed by you or someone you know.
  5. Work at Optum should not be your first priority - your health, your friends and family, and maybe finding other income (new job or otherwise) might be worth focusing on

This is not a complete list, so feel free to add

Is the severance pay on top of the 90day warn notice salary or is it in lieu of the warn notice requirement?

I am working on clearing out debt, saving money, completing additional training and certifications as this feels like this will be ongoing.

It hasn’t been a simple “2 weeks for every year of service” and HAS and IS based on your salary grade AND years of service for at least a decade now. There has been no material change in the severance schedule of benefits for at least that long.

You do not get 2 weeks for every year of service. They quietly pulled the severance guidelines off Sparq after the lasts RIFs in July and updated the guidelines. They have lowered severance guidelines for years of service. It is was and remains dependent on your grade level and years of service. Max is 26 weeks. Period. In order to get 26 weeks, you have to be greater than 16-19 years of service depending on your grade level. Do your homework.
