Thread regarding 3M layoffs

3Mers aren't good enough for 3M

Nice, motivating post on 3M Go today about how we're going to speed up the hiring process by posting all roles externally at the same time we post them internally.

Not that it matters, since we're to busy cutting to ever hire.

I dunno, getting an external req previously was horrendous. Going through internal candidates who can’t do the job, with no way of advertising to them or approaching people, for months on end usually ended up with the req being cancelled or taking someone who wasn’t a great fit for the job.

The better way to phrase this would be, “3M isn’t good enough for former 3Mers.”

This is a good thing. We will still hire the great internal but then we can tell people that we did consider external too.

The removal of 3Mers is part of the plan, watch what they do, not what they say.

This is an old trick 3M HR has used for at least 35 years to hire H1B Visa candidates.

3M HR intentionally publishes jobs externally on LinkedIn, Indeed, and ZipRecruiter to meet federal and state hiring recruitment legal regulation requirements, which requires 3M to formally post all the openings externally.

Ghost jobs are created, posted, and filled by H1B visa hires. Since the job was posted externally, H1B visa candidates can be hired legally over similarly qualified local candidates. Another key tell is if a job is posted externally but not internally.

It's the same sort of legal work-around trickery used to ignore/avoid WARN notices.
If you lay somebody off and keep then on the payroll as a normal employee for 90 days, you don't have to file a WARN notice even though thousands of employees were laid off.
