Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Isn't 4,700 too many?

Am I the only one who's worried about how the scope of these layoffs will affect those who are left behind?

As inefficient as we are 4700 could go tomorrow and many would not know the difference

Survivors guilt please! Once you been through round after round its just survival better them than me. The fallen would not give a hoot if the tables were turned so why should I care. Better the money lands in my pocket.

When the execs starting using the phrase "value chains" they were able to generate incredible growth. Whatever happened to "agile"? You'd hear about agile 100 times a day a few years ago, but now "mindfulness", "squads", and "sprints" hardly exist. The only sprint you hear about is Muzza's run to the buffet.

Isn't it interesting that BP was still recruiting in the geographies layoff were meant to happen until yesterday.

The new operating model is: layoffs to save money and satisfy investors. This results in an inability to execute our plan due to low staff, so we layoff more people to save money and satisfy investors. Repeat cycle until company disappears.

By "affect" do you mean having any remorse about being paid with the blood of the fallen?

As one who had been the "left behind" many times, I can tell you that you'll suffer from survivor's guilt. It's a real thing. You'll also suffer from overworking and you'll feel pressure about not reporting this. Your mental health and family life will suffer as well. You'll dread reading about a new "system" that the Group is rolling out and you'll need to attend training. All of this is to give shareholders the impression that some miraculous, new system that will "assure" lower costs and increased efficiencies. They will assign "champions" to be talking heads. May God help those remaining because your days ahead will be miserable.

You must be new here - they cut 15% in reinvent. Also it's not net 4700 down, a chunk of roles are being offshored.
