Does anyone ever see a pattern when getting reviews? I love how it seems one year it's great, the next, not so much.. You ask questions about "why the sudden change"?, and the answer you will get is "Unfortunately U will never get a great review every year, nor will you get a" perfect" one because we aren't able to do that..
However many people are in depts, all of them can't have "exceeds expectations" they pick and choose.. For example employee A can get exceeds on their time utilization, but employee B, as much as they prob exceed that, will get a "meets expectation".. I guess at the end of the day, just do the bare minimum and you will still get a half decent 1% raise..

Reviews are a joke! KRA’s being reviewed and being reworked when management doesn’t even know what’s going on. They obviously didn’t do their homework. Relying on employees to prove their worth! What a joke! And raises are cr-p considering what they are putting us through for their BONUSES ! When we can barely live. Nice!!! Karma will get them!!
In my department no one ever got exceeds so no one ever got promoted. All it took was one small and practically insignificant issue to be an absolutely major point of contention on the review. Even when easily resolved and never going beyond the "hey can you fix this?", it was always "Well this was a major issue that came up this year so I can't in good conscience say you exceed expectations".
I agree. No matter how many consecutive "exceeds" you get, you still won't get a promotion. No fault of my manager because they have fought tooth and nail but it's this "committee" that's decides.
Now with the reorg, people being moved to different areas/leaving departments and "demotions", trying to get a promotion is even harder even on a non-managerial path.
PDPs are the biggest joke! You tell me how you are going, and the supervisor uses your words to base their review! I can’t give you a good rating because it won’t coincide with your increase! I did try fighting for you!
Even if you get good reviews, you can still get caught up on the arbitrary mass demotions which took place. No incentive for American employees to continue to work hard and get good results
"Complain" must be sarcastic
This is nonsense! All of you slackers are on here complaining when you should be working harder! Canon is the best company I’ve ever worked for and management is great and fair. If you’re complaining you should look at yourself in the mirror and figure out you’re probably not good at your job.
and i quote, i will not rate you "exceeds expections" on the job you were hired to do. Meanwhile job description is vague and all over the place and includes " and more duties as assigned" ... and it's rarely really about the work that you do. Depending on your manager it ends up being about how much a-s kissing you are willing to do to get a stellar review.
10% of your employees are great
80% of your employees are ok
10% of your employees are bad
(Or numbers like that)
Thats the requirement for annual review.
You cant be great all the time cuz then no one else can.
Lol it’s the worst kept secret.
If all true why no one report on discrimination?
I used to work for Canon USA in the HR department. Here’s the criteria for manager reviews (serious):
Are you an expat?
(1) If the answer is yes, then you’ve exceeded expectations and will get a promotion.
(2) if the answer is no, then you have not exceeded expectations and will not get a promotion.
This company doesn’t care about hard work or employees that are actually trying to grow revenue and profits. They care about whether you’re Japanese and/or a “Yes Man”.
